Back in the Kayak Again

After 8 years of not kayaking, I am in a place where I can get out again.  I have purchased my boat and gear and am excited to be back out there.  Right now, I am paddling near home in the lakes and streams just trying to get my chops back.

I took a break not long after my youngest girl was born.  My wife was dealing with bone spurs in her shoulder and we just were not able to cut out a few hours of time to get out in the water on a consistent basis. So, I sold our kayaks and dove head first into my other hobby - homebrewing.

Over the last couple of years, I have dealt with several health issues and homebrewing as a hobby was getting harder to justify.  I had also had a rare arthritis that comes on fast, hangs around for a few months and leaves but with joint damage. This caused the most damage to my knees and hips and stopped my main form of exercise - hiking/walking/elliptical - from being a viable solution.

All of this plus my daughter turning 10 and not really wanting me around as much as she once did, got me to thinking that I could kill 2 birds with one stone by jumping back in to kayaking as it would serve as both exercise and fill my need to have a hobby.

I am planning on talking gear, trips and posting photography here.  I don't really expect much traffic but feel free to follow along if this interests you.  I will have a url change to something more appropriate for the topic in the near future.  Be on the lookout for this as I move forward with this site.
